Teacher Interviews, and what they are for

The aim of these interviews is to give you a role model, an inspiration and a guide when you are in the process of making changes to how you work in your classroom.

The teachers' interviews were arrived at after speaking with a wide range of teachers who are working towards integrating certain aspects of coaching into their classrooms.

Having carried out these interviews informally over many years, I chose to write a dozen examples of these interviews for this course. The example teachers are composite characters designed to be role models for certain steps in bringing coaching into the classroom.

I have used the same key questions that were asked and answered in the interviews. The names of the teachers are fictional, as are their schools and photographs. Their responses are authentic and represent several teachers' experiences.

The interview format

The interview questions generally came in three stages:

  1. A preparation stage. When the teachers were experiencing some challenges or discomfort in their classroom
  2. An action step where they talked about what they wanted to happen in their classrooms, set goals and chose strategies
  3. A follow up session where the teacher talked about what had happened, who had supported them and how much progress they had made.

Certification Process

The interviews with the teachers was the inspiration for the certification process.
